This is a nourishing recipe for turmeric tea aka golden milk which is super easy, super vegan and super delicious.
I have heard about turmeric tea for quite some time but only just got round to making it. The main factor is I have been having some plant-based milks more recently and thoroughly enjoying them with quinoa porridge, quinoa puffs, curries, and this drink. As I have a lot of spices daily, even more so as I follow a more Ayurvedic approach to my food, nutrition and health, I knew it was time to give the renowned golden milk a whirl. So pleased I did.
I am all about food that nourishes my soul, rejuvenates my body, heals my heart, and supports optimal digestion. Well, turmeric tea certainly offers the elements of being nourishing, grounding, healing, rejuvenating and warming for body, mind and spirit. The first time I made this my whole body felt like it had a huge warming hug from my golden cup of tea. I felt loved and cherished with each sip. It is an incredibly soothing drink that I highly recommend to anyone looking for some big ole’ love from healing nutrition.
This recipe is vegan and uses plant-based milk. My go-to milk is organic soya (bonsoy or unsweetened) or organic unsweetened almond milk, however feel free to use other nut milks, coconut milk, oat milk or rice milk. Choose the best quality possible and preferably organic. Then I throw in a mix of wonderful spices: turmeric, ginger, black pepper and cinnamon. That’s it. All of this combined makes a creamy, lightly spiced, deliciously warming drink filled with love and health. You can add a little sesame oil or coconut oil for more of a traditional take with the added fat. You can add a little sweetness such as maple syrup if your heart desires. Personally I love the simplicity of the spices with the plant milk. Yummy hearted goodness!
Enjoy this golden turmeric tea before a meal, on its own as a little pick-me-up or before bed to relax and unwind. My daughter loves this drink so much. We have been enjoying it pre-meal before diving into a bowl of quinoa puffs drenched in a plant-based milk. This meal is ridiculously simple and one that happens when I just want to eat without any prep work (aside from making the tea). Sophia enjoys every mouthful of the tea before devouring the quinoa which she absolutely adores. She loves quinoa anything – standard quinoa alongside dinner, quinoa flakes as porridge, and quinoa puffs. This girl is hooked on quinoa at 18 months.
